EMMA & DAN'S WEDDING IN PUGLIA

Emma, a travel specialist in London, contacted me with the clear idea of wanting a Jewish wedding in Italy. More specifically she dreamt of getting married in Puglia, a region which was still fairly new to the destination wedding market.

The recently opened Masseria Potenti was the obvious choice for Emma. A traditional Puglia white stoned washed Masseria, a white canvas where we would have been able to create a bespoke design for our couple’s Jewish wedding in Puglia.

With the only onus in mind of organising a memorable experience for their guests, the whole concept of the wedding was revolved about combining local traditions whilst keeping the classic traditions of a Jewish wedding in Italy.
After a fairly conventional Jewish ceremony, guests were treated to a market-style aperitif. We designed food stalls decorated with fruit and vegetables, berries and herbs, showcasing some Italian delicacies, from the most common cold meats and selection of cheeses, to the very local panzerotti station and fresh fish station. To make the concept even more unusual and fun, rustic hay seats combined with carpets, were scattered around the big central courtyard to create lounge areas.
Dinner was set up on long imperial tables with ladders on either sides and a wooden structure along the top from which we hang a mixture of flowers, cactuses leaves and chillies. The Masseria walls which framed the dinner area, were lit up with typical Puglian lights, luminarie. Originally baroque, luminarie are still today hang around towns during local patron saint’s festivals to brighten up the towns with their shimmering colours. With their refined patterns, always reminiscent of old nonna’s crochets, and being such a unique and colourful symbol of Puglia, we could not forget them when designing a vivid Puglian event.

A full Puglian experience could not end without guests experiencing the folk local pizzica dance. Similar to the more famous tarantella, traditionally dressed pizzica dancers involved guests in prancing excitedly before the party moved on to the much more classical DJ music until the very early hours of the morning.
